If you’re planning to buy an electric car like the Jaguar I-PACE, you may be giddy thinking about all of the money you’ll save on gas. However, it’s important to understand that you will need to supply power to your car in order to recharge the battery. To do this, these are the three different charging levels to know about:
Level 1
Level 1 charging consists of something you already have at your home: a regular 120-volt outlet. You’ll be able to plug your Jaguar I-PACE directly into one of these to get it charged. Because these outlets don’t have a ton of power, however, it will take a while to get the battery charged. It will give you between three and five miles of range per hour.
Level 2
Level 2 charging involves a 240-volt outlet, which can be easily installed in your home by a professional. Level 2 charging typically adds between 12 and 80 miles of range per hour, and the Jaguar I-PACE can be fully charged in about 10 hours with this type of charger.
Level 3
Level 3 charging provides a lot of power very quickly, as it typically utilizes a 440-volt outlet. This is why you wouldn’t be able to have this kind of charger installed at your home. The good news is that more and more DC fast-charging stations are being created, so finding one isn’t usually too difficult. Using one of these stations, you can have 78 miles of range added to your Jaguar I-PACE in just 15 minutes.
