When you do a lot of driving in and around Northfield, you just never know when you’ll hit a pothole or run over a sharp object in the road. This is why it pays to be prepared to deal with a flat tire. This guide from our Jaguar service center goes over the steps to take.
Get Out Your Tools
Changing a tire can be easy, depending on many factors, and it only involves three things: a jack, lug wrench, and spare tire. As long as you have these handy, you’re ready to go.
Loosen the Lug Nuts
The next step is to loosen the lug nuts with the wrench. Be sure not to take them off yet, however. You may need to use a lug nut wheel lock adapter, which should be in an easy-to-find place in your car, like the glove department or center console.
Jack Up the Car
Now, take the jack and put it under a sturdy section of the car frame. Turn the jack handle clockwise to get the car up, and make sure it rises several inches off the ground.
Take Off the Flat
Next, remove the lug nuts and the bad tire. Then you can line up the holes with the temporary spare tire to put the lug nuts back on. Screw the lug nuts back on the wheel and make sure they are screwed on snugly.
Lower the Car
The last step is to turn the jack handle counter-clockwise to put the car back on the ground. Make sure that the lug nuts are nice and tight before driving.
Don’t Forget to Get a New Tire
Because you just never know when a flat will occur, it’s important to replace your spare as quickly as you can. This is especially true if you put a temporary spare, or “donut,” on your car, as they are only meant to be driven a limited number of miles.
