Make Sure You Have the Right Tools

Find a Working Car and Make the Connections
If your battery has died, the first thing you need is access to a working car. Once the vehicles are parked closely, nose to nose, it’s time to make the connection with the cables.
- Connect one red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the dead battery and the other red clamp to the same terminal on the working battery
- Attach one black clamp to the negative terminal on the working battery
- Attach the other black clamp to an unpainted surface on your vehicle, such as the engine block
Start the Cars
The next step is to start the car with the working battery and let it run for several minutes. Then, try to start your vehicle. If everything works properly, it should start up pretty easily. Let this one also run for at least 15 minutes to ensure the battery is holding its charge. Finally, remove the cables in reverse order of how they were attached.
