Would you know what to do if your car got a flat tire? While you could always call an auto club or somebody else for help, changing a tire actually isn’t that difficult. This guide from the Jaguar service center at Jaguar Northfield goes over the steps to take.
Get Out Your Tools
Changing a flat tire really only involves three things: a jack, lug wrench, and spare tire. As long as you have those on hand, the rest is straightforward.
Loosen the Lug Nuts and Raise the Car
First, take the wrench and loosen the lug nuts on the bad tire, but don’t remove them just yet. Next, place the jack under a strong section of your car’s frame and turn the jack handle clockwise to raise it about six inches off the ground.
Take Off the Flat Tire and Replace it With the Spare
Now, fully remove the lug nuts and take the tire off. Then line up the spare with the holes and put the lug nuts back in. Tighten them by hand, but not quite all the way.
Lower the Car
Finally, turn the jack handle counter-clockwise until the car is back down. Finally, tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern and you’re ready to ride. If you have a temporary spare tire, or “donut,” remember that you should not drive more than 50 miles.
Get a New Tire or Spare
While those steps will get you driving again, you don’t want to forget about another one: getting a new tire or spare. You just never know when you’ll need it, and you will have much better peace of mind driving around with new tires and a fresh spare. The professionals at Jaguar Northfield will make sure you always get the right tires for your vehicle.
